After ten years of building our community on Patreon, our page has been suddenly removed without warning. Ten years of work, instantly deleted.
What happened? I connected Patreon's API to our website using their official plugin to test a feature that would offer discounts to patrons on our albums. This is completely within their Terms of Service and would benefit everyone involved, including Patreon.
Since Patreon doesn't provide any sandboxing environment for testing integrations, I created a test account with a $10 subscription to avoid bothering our actual patrons during development. The result? They instantly banned both our main account and the test account. This is unacceptable.
Patreon Support Doesn't Help
We've reached out to their support team, but only received generic and unhelpful responses that offer little hope. Their customer support has a dismal 1.5-star rating, with some creators waiting months for a real answer. Each day that passes makes recovery more difficult, and the "removed" status on our page doesn't provide any explanation to our supporters.
This situation is commonplace between creators when building their livelihoods on third-party platforms. At any moment, without warning or recourse, everything you've built can disappear. We're currently left in limbo—unsure if our page will be restored, if our subscribers will remain, or if we'll recover the months of revenue that were in the process of being transferred.
We've been trying to reach our community through every channel available: Discord, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, YouTube Community, and X/Twitter. If you're reading this, please help spread the word to others who might be wondering what happened to our Patreon.
Any Support Is Appreciated
This experience has reinforced something we've always known, the need for an independent platform.
If you love TTRPG as we do, consider using our tool Opus. We offer the largest audio collection available, with a sleek, fast interface that enhances your gaming experience. Most importantly, there are no big companies to step on us. It's just us and our community.
We'll continue to update you as we learn more, and we're deeply grateful for your support during this challenging time. For now, you can find us and our collection on Opus.
Thank you for standing with us.
